Nondispersive Infrared Sensors

  • NDIR is a common way to measure gas concentration.
  • Different gases absorb different wavelengths in the near infrared spectrum. A modulated broadband light source is filtered to get a beam of the desired wavelength, then the received intensity amplitude is measured to determine the absorption rate.
  • This is a nondispersive method, as opposed to other methods which measure the whole spectrum.
